Our Walk and Talk programme provides Young person Mentoring and a Family Support service.
Overview
Our 1:1 sessions with Young People will be offered as a “walk and talk” utilising the outdoors as our classroom. Working alongside the referral partner, we will meet the timetable that suits the individual and school. Our Family Support Sessions will take place throughout the young person’s time with us, combining school/home visits, phone calls and supporting the whole family to support reengagement with education.
Aims
These sessions focus on preventing young people from developing future problems related to lack of belonging, lack of expression and a lack of support.
- To help Young People develop a healthy relationship to the world around them through identifying and managing feelings, setting goals, and developing better relationships.
- The inclusion of support sessions with their Primary Caregiver broadens the focus to their relationship with the wider family unit and the school environment.
- Supervised by a fully qualified Counsellor (PGDip in Counselling and registered with BACP) and will work within the policies of the referral partner.
Weekly sessions
This is a 6-week programme offering 2 hours per week. 1 hour with the Young Person and 1 hour with the Primary Caregiver.
Outcomes
Based on over 10 years’ experience, we are confident that full family support will deliver better school attendance and better connections and behaviour once in school.
Dates
We will have two intakes throughout the year, one in April and September. The 2024 dates are:
Block 1: April 16th – 20th June 2024
Block 2: September 5th – 14th November 2024
